I've completely forgotten where I found this photograph (eek) but thought it appropriate for this gloomy Thursday... if only I could look this glamorous in the rainy streets of New York...Labels: photography |

Alexandrena Parker

Stunning. We discovered Alexandrena Parker's photography about two weeks ago and since then, her portfolio has become our go-to site whenever we need some 'oohs' and 'aahs' to perk us up (perfect for a Monday). She hails from Melbourne, and as a fellow Aussie I'm as proud as punch to show her off. You'll be seeing some of her work in cards featured on our site soon enough... Labels: photography |

As a Brit living in the Big Apple I just had to go see Jason Bell's new series of photographs: An Englishman in New York" (at the National Portrait Gallery in London). I loved the little interviews accompanying the photographs describing each expat's New York story.... Read all about it!
And just in case London is a little too far away for you, the series has been turned into a book of the same name.Labels: art, books, photography |

Photographs of children always provide us with a good dose of comic relief. We are crazy about the photos in the book, Cicci Cocco, which capture children's playful and free spirits and make us laugh every time we look at them. We like the little captions accompanying each photo as well. We will be posting more photos this week of our favorites!

NYC Ballet

photos courtesy of the New York City Ballet fall catalog
I wish I were a dancer for the NYC ballet... (and wish my body looked like that too) Those beautiful costumes, the music, the choreography, lighting design, stage sets... the list goes on. Here in New York City we are lucky to share our home with the graceful dancers of the New York City Ballet. Labels: nyc, photography |

Little girl, big city
8.31.2010
|
We're doing a big office clean up at the moment and came across this image that Kirby tore out of a magazine ages ago (she thinks it was Bambino). We all immediately fell in love with this little girl... it looks like she's just out and about for the day in Soho, running some errands, squeezing in a little shopping, maybe meeting up with friends later on... adorable.Labels: photography |

Globe trotters

It's vacation time! We have all escaped the city for 2 weeks and swapped concrete and skyscrapers for some exotic and inspiring beach locations. Kirby is in California, Kat is in Rio and I am on Italy's Amalfi Coast, so get ready to start hearing all about about our individual adventures!
Before I start going on and on about the pasta in Positano however, I wanted to share these crazy beautiful photographs and send you on your own little African getaway. Nick Brandt is just incredible... check out more of his amazing work online here, or do as I did and buy one of his books to drool over in person (they make great gifts also). Ciao!Labels: photography |

Andy and nature: Hand in Hand
7.13.2010
|
Andy Goldsworthy is known for waking before the crack of dawn to assemble icicles into beautiful spiralled sculptures that melt as the sun rises. Luckily for us he is a fastidious documenter of his work and he does create some more permanent works of art, such as this rather wonderful weaving wall that you can see at the Storm King Sculpture park (that's a whole other blog post!). If you do fall in love with his work as much as I have, I urge you to watch Rivers and Tides, a fascinating film that documents Andy's creative process and gives you a greater insight into his aesthetic philosophies - something I don't have anywhere near enough space to go into here!Labels: art, photography |

Davina's dogs
5.26.2010
|
We've had a busy and exciting couple of weeks here at Petite Alma. Last week, we had the very talented (and very very lovely) photographer Davina Zagury in the studio working her magic and we're pretty excited about the results (stay tuned... the photographs will be up on our website asap). Until then, I wanted to share some of her other work.
Aren't these doggy portraits adorable? When I first moved to New York, I was struck by the unique dog culture – they're everywhere! Enormous dogs, tiny dogs, and all with these quirky little personalities. I love that Davina was able to capture all this in her photographs...Labels: photography |

Dutesco Art

I came across Roberto Dutesco's fabulous photography this weekend while strolling down Crosby Street Saturday afternoon. The horses of Sable Island are stunning- I want them all! And while you are there, you might as well stop by the Vespa store next door... Labels: photography |
