Yum.  As you all probably know by now, I'm a HUGE macaron lover.  If you are ever close to the Time Warner Center, stop by Bouchon Bakery for a salad or a grilled cheese and soup and most definitely a dessert.  You can eat at their cafe or you can just pick up something to go.  Everything is so beautiful and delicious.  Click here to visit their site.

Tarallucci E Vino
9.10.2010

To indulge in an authentic Italian experience right here in New York, we head over to Tarallucci E Vino [which has three downtown locations]. A quick cappuccino and freshly baked croissant is always a delightful way to start the day.  We love the clean, minimal aesthetic and decor- modern style with Italian flair.  The european style pastry cases and italian food always encourage me to have a glass of wine when eating lunch there!

oxo tots

Sippy cup set
Training cup side view

Training cup view from above
Snack disk
Small and large bowl set
Flip top snack cup

We came across Oxo tots at the gift show this week and are crazy about their products.  Our favorite was the Sippy cup set.  In the beginning, the baby uses the Sippy Cup with Handles.  When they have mastered the handles, you can just pop those off and still have the grippy sides to hold on to. When they are ready to use a regular cup, just take the sippy cup top off and replace it with the training cup which has small perforations around the edge to control the flow of liquid.  If they over-tilt the cup or tip the cup over, they don't loose as much of the liquid, minimizing messes during the learning process.  For the last stage you can just pop out the training lid and have a regular cup.  Brilliant!

Eat with your eyes
8.16.2010

A fabulous Torta ricotta e pera (ricotta and pear cheesecake) this evening inspired me to try and track down a recipe to share with you all. However, I stumbled across something even greater: Tastespotting: a collection of delicious images which each link to a recipe. So simple. So scrumptious. And check out all these other amazing ricotta creations! If all goes well, the Petite Alma team shall be well fed when we all get back to work this week!

La grande orange
8.07.2010

Next week I will be in LA and can't wait to visit one of my favorite little spots- La Grand Orange.  Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, they serve everything - strong coffee, fresh squeezed juice, eggs, tacos, sushi, hamburgers, salads, wine, delicious desserts... you name it, they have it. And, all of it tastes so fresh and healthy.  I think I'll ride my bike there a few times next week!

peanut butter and co
7.27.2010

On Saturday, I met my friend, Katie, and her precious daughter, Katherine, at Peanut Butter and Co. on Sullivan Street in the village.  It's a little lunch spot with all sorts of peanut butter specialties.  Tiny and casual, the menu was filled with anything peanut butter- from the basic PB&J to a peanut butter and chocolate sunday and even a peanut butter panini with honey and bananas.  All simply delicious!  You have probably seen their products at Whole foods and other grocery stores.  I think I'll try the White Chocolate Wonderful next.  Click here to visit the Peanut Butter and Co. site.

Pop Art
6.11.2010

The West Village's Popbar is the new place to be on a hot, sticky afternoon. They've put gelato on a stick, and will dunk it into an assortment of delicious liquids and toppings until you've got your own cold, yummy little piece of art. I love Summer.

Lego Candy
6.02.2010

A friend introduced me to Lego candy the other day and before we gobbled them all up, I managed to snap this photo so I could share this wonderful treat with you guys. They come in a range of pretty pastel colours, and I love the fact that you can actually build with them! You can buy enough to create a small town on Amazon, but if anyone knows where you can buy them in smaller quantities, please let me know...

pierre herme
5.13.2010

There is nothing in the world I love more than a parisian macaroon.  They are my all time favorite dessert in the entire universe.  On a bad day, all I need is a macaroon (or two or three) and then I am fine.  The BEST macaroons are found at Pierre Herme in Paris (of course).  Not only are they so incredibly delicious, but you can purchase them in these amazing gift boxes too.  C'est magnifique!  Click here to visit Pierre Herme.

a meal fit for a mom
5.09.2010

Mothers Day is apparently the biggest restaurant day of the year, but I think nothing beats sitting your mom down with a nice glass of wine and whipping her up a home cooked meal. I tend to always check in at Sunday Suppers on Sunday mornings and be inspired for the evening meal (many thanks to the wonderful Karen Mordechai). And if my own mother didn't live on the other side of the world, I think that tonight I would have made her this, followed by this and this, and then perhaps this or this.

Happy Mothers Day to all!

Chocolate Masters
3.30.2010

The parents of Rick and Michael Mast must be very proud. Mast Brothers Chocolate ticks all the boxes: it's delicious, beautifully packaged, and handcrafted from the the finest, wholesome ingredients. These photographs (taken by one of my absolute favorite photographers, Todd Selby) show the brothers hard at work in their beautiful Brooklyn factory. With Easter around the corner, now's the perfect time to indulge (I recommend their dark chocolate with almonds and sea salt).

Hot Chocolate!!
2.25.2010

I know I'm almost too late on this, but if you haven't been over to city bakery this month you have three days until their hot chocolate festival finishes. We've had great fun trying out their different flavours, my favourite was the 'Tropical hot chocolate' (imagine chocolate and fried bananas) but 'Ode to the polar bear' was a close second (imagine a melted bar of white chocolate..mmmm).... If you don't get there in the next few days, the regular hot chocolate is delicious (served in bowls with home-made marshmallows), or why not get inspired and make your own!

Fancy a Harney?
2.09.2010

Flavor of the day: Winter White Earl Grey. Delicious.

There's nothing lovelier or more comforting than a nice hot cup of tea on a cold morning. At the moment, we all adore Harney and Sons. Their exotic flavors not only smell and taste incredible, but the packaging is sooo pretty (we'd like to collect every flavor and build a beautiful fortress out of the tins) and even the tea itself is a work of art (visit their blog to see pics).

On a side note, if you're ever in the Millerton area of Connecticut, the Harney and Sons teashop (complete with tasting room and cafe) is just adorable. I've been there a couple of times and always leave with a bag of goodies and a big smile on my face.

Ready... set... eat!
1.25.2010

NYC Winter Restaurant Week begins today! Woohoo! There are a bunch of great restaurants participating this year, but my absolute favorite would have to be Mario Batali's West Village gem: Lupa. It's fabulous... and is offering a weekday lunch pre fixe menu for under $25. Okay... five hours until lunch... I think I can make it.

Spoon-fed
1.14.2010

I just had to tell you about my lunch today. I had Panzamella salad with vine ripe tomato, garlic basil and balsamic reduction croutons and for desert the most adorable upsidedown flourless chocolate cake topped with whipped cream and a blackberry, all from  'Spoon' my most favourite little lunch spot! Delicious! They do great coffee too.

A Country Cafe in New York

Last night I had a lovely time at Friend of a Farmer, a sweet little restaurant on Irving Place. It was so cosy sitting drinking red wine in front of a crackling fire chatting away for hours. We also nibbled on a lovely green salad with red pepper dressing and some sumptuous maple carrot mashed potato. I shall most definitely be returning for dinner!
