Aren't these stickers fantastic? I'm not sure where they're from but we have put them up all around the studio and they always make me smile.

N.B I've just learned that Kirby picked these up in Paris and that they're actually Djeco stickers (thanks Courtney!) and can be purchased here.

Christmas in July
7.26.2010

Believe it or not, we've been working on our 2010 holiday designs for a good two months now... it's very bizarre drawing snowflakes and wintery scenes when it's 100 degrees outside, but we've been having quite a lot of fun with it all and are very excited for the collection to launch later this year. Here's a little teaser...

Flower fairies
7.22.2010

We were going through our books in the studio yesterday (we've got quite a lovely collection) and came across A World of Flower Fairies by the incredible Cicely Mary Barker. Suddenly, it was as if we'd all just been transported back to our childhoods- each of us had such fond memories of pouring through the pages and imagining the lives of these darling little creatures. And of course, we all had our favorites... here are some of them.

Lucinda Rogers
6.21.2010

I've been a big fan of Lucinda Rogers for some time. I could while away many an hour standing in front of her incredibly intricate large scale illustrations absorbed in the stories they tell about our beautiful cities and the people who live in them. I love the fact that she'll sit in the middle of a busy street quietly capturing the hustle and bustle of the world around her...

Cartographical Fun
5.11.2010

Two of my favourite things are maps and Oliver Jeffer's illustrations, so when I saw these beautiful prints for sale on The Royal We I was so excited. Each print comes with little pins so you can 'chart your path to total American domination'! And the best thing? It's my birthday next month, so here's hoping!

I love this guy! Maurizio Santucci (aka Bomba) is an Italian illustrator with a passion for paper craft and an imagination gone rampant. Check out his very cool portfolio here.

Keep on Moving
4.20.2010

Isn't this a great screen print? I love the mixture of type and colour, and who doesn't like old bicycles? It was put together by the very talented chaps over at Telegramme, a bespoke design studio based in sunny London. You can take a peek here.

Maira Kalman Exhibition
4.09.2010

I love Maira Kalman's bold use of colour, her unique wit and the way she manages to capture so much personality in her portraits. This is why next week I'm heading over to the Julie Saul Gallery to check out her latest exhibition: Further Illuminations (it's on until May 1st). If you don't happen to live in nyc, then you should take a trip to your nearest book store or library to take a peek at her most wonderful books: The Principles of Uncertainty, and Elements of Style.

Poor Eli
3.05.2010

Isn't this book so cool? It perfectly captures the 'I love you but you drive me crazy' mentality of dog-owners everywhere. Super talented husband and wife team Eight Hour Day wrote and designed the book based on their own very naughty Eli. I love the unexpected illustrative style, fab typography and color palette.

Alphabeasties and Other Amazing Types
2.16.2010

I came across this children's book the other day and I thought that this was such a great idea for little abecedarians. It was created by By Sharon Werner and Sarah Forss from Werner Design Werks. They have some really beautiful work; I'll definitely be posting some more of their designs soon! You can buy the book here, or check out more images from the book just here.

G'day and hooray

Bushland traffic on the roads

A kangaroo cabstand!

The Gumnut babies at the Hat Shop

Since I am the only Aussie in the Petite Alma studio, I often feel a bit self indulgent highlighting design or talent from down under... but not today! Happy Australia Day everybody! To celebrate, I've included illustrations from one of the most loved children's book in Oz: The Tales of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. These Gumnut babies live in Eucalyptus trees and have all sorts of adventures with their bushland friends while avoiding the evil Banksia men. These original illustrations by May Gibbs are just fantastic.

A little silver spoon
1.19.2010

I came across the neatest book over the weekend: The Silver Spoon for Children: Favorite Italian Recipes. The book takes recipes from the original Silver Spoon (Italian food bible) and breaks them down for kids. I just had to buy it... partly because the illustrative style is adorable, and partly because it explains the recipes in a way that even I can understand!

Birds of a feather
1.16.2010

We have fallen in love with this bird alphabet by Andrea Kalfas. I love the 'A' with it's long skinny legs... and the cheeky 'Q'. What a fun idea...

Dear Diary....
1.04.2010

Each year the Redstone Diary comes out with a new theme and this year it's Russian Children's Books from 1920 - 1935. The book is full of beautiful illustrations that makes it easy to be organised and stylish in 2010!

winter wonderland

Winter is well and truly here in NYC, and at Petite Alma we've surrounded ourselves with all things white and wonderful. We love these wintery tree letterpress cards from Yee Haw Industries – they are so playful and fun (and keep us distracted from the cold).

Découpages and dress ups!
12.13.2009

Look what I found today! These adorable illustrations by Marc Vidal are printed on card and can be cut out to play dress ups with the little characters! The outfits are fabulous and I love the little details like the sheet music and envelope... too cute! I came across a package of them at Chelsea Market's Jingle Festival. There's a whole lot of great, quirky stuff available so if you've still got gifts to buy, definitely check it out.

We all fall down
11.25.2009

Christoph Niemann over at the New York Times has a delightfully whimsical and creative blog called Abstract City. It's full of unexpected illustrations and witty thinking that just makes me smile. I especially love his California and Kansas trees; it would be so fun to see all the United Leaves of America together! You should check out his blog here to see the rest of his column - don't miss the poplar and the unpolplar leaves. And whilst you're over there, take a look at his I Lego NY post.

the wonderful world of rob ryan
11.23.2009

How beautiful are these paper cutouts by the super talented Rob Ryan!!?? I can't decide what I love more: his illustrative style, the imaginative worlds he creates, or the poetic little wonderings he features in them. He's got some pieces currently showing at the amazing Museum of Art and Design, and I'm really looking forward to seeing his work in person. If you can't get there yourself, check out his blog to keep up to date on all things Rob.
