Lisa Ho is one of my absolute favorite Aussie fashion designers. Her creations are so feminine and chic. This red dress would look so fabulous at a new years or holiday party!

To market, to market...

Photographs from She Hit Pause Studios at the Union Square Market

Beautiful prints by Animalsleep Art and Design at Union Square

Very cool bicycle artwork by Taliah Lempert at the Gifted Holiday Market

Delicious morsels by Liddabit Sweets at Gifted

For those of you who have left their shopping until the very last minute (like me), there are so many wonderful markets popping up all over the city. Kat and I explored a few of them last week and met some very lovely people selling some very lovely things...

YOGA
12.23.2009

photograph of Malachi Melville by Saam Gabbay photography
I think some people dislike yoga because they have never actually had a good teacher.  Once you find your match, you will crave going to class!  I have found two teachers I absolutely adore.  Jen G. teaches at Kula Yoga in NYC and Malachi Melville teaches at Yoga Works in LA (seen above).  I like both of them because they are not too over the top with yoga language, spirituality, etc.  They both give a terrific workout and you just get a sense that they are good, nice, relaxed people.

DIY Christmas
12.20.2009

These gorgeous paper christmas creatures are part of a simple print-and-make-at-home kit available from mibostudio. What a great kids holiday activity! I am absolutely in love with the sleepy little pink thing (i can't quite work out what it is). It would look cute on my desk all year round...

The ABC home window display

Inside ABC home... drool

Not entirely practical... but the coolest bed ever (in Soho's Anthropologie)

How fabulous is the holiday season!!! The snow has arrived at last and the cold is no match for the fun, cheery vibe that you can feel in the streets. My neighborhood is alive with celebration, twinkle lights and crazed shoppers. Speaking of which, stores have well and truly stepped up this year. Check out a few of our favorite 'wintery' displays from ABC home and Anthropologie...

Happy holidays to all!

Grown and Sewn
12.17.2009

We recently discovered Grown and Sewn, an absolutely beautiful store in Tribeca that has created the perfect male pant: "Kax" are a mix between jeans and khaki's (why didn't I think of that) and are obviously super comfy and versatile. If you've still got gifts to buy for the men in your life, I'd suggest taking a stroll down there or visiting their online shop.

Découpages and dress ups!
12.13.2009

Look what I found today! These adorable illustrations by Marc Vidal are printed on card and can be cut out to play dress ups with the little characters! The outfits are fabulous and I love the little details like the sheet music and envelope... too cute! I came across a package of them at Chelsea Market's Jingle Festival. There's a whole lot of great, quirky stuff available so if you've still got gifts to buy, definitely check it out.

Tim Burton 1...2...5
12.10.2009

I rather liked this series of quirky number illustrations by Tim Burton. If you have an afternoon spare, I thoroughly recommend a trip to the MOMA to see a jam packed retrospective of his work. As you probably know, his work can be rather peculiar at times so if you take younger children you may want to navigate them away from his more bizarre pieces. However they'll delight at the moving sculptures and love the glow-in-the-dark room where everything white lights up!

Bite-sized goodness
12.04.2009

Coffee Caramel Bourbon

Lemon Lavender

Dark Chocolate

The display at my wedding: 34 dozen cupcakes in 9 flavors

Yum yum yumminee yum yum. That's all I have to say about kumquat cupcakery's little bites of deliciousness. These are no ordinary cupcakes – they are about a quarter of the size and pack in double the flavor with fabulous combinations like 'maple bacon' and 'chocolate peanut butter'. I had Keavy (owner, illustrator, and genie in the kitchen) cater my wedding 2 months ago and the guests are still raving...

To try them for yourself, catch Kumquat Cupcakery most weekends at the Brooklyn Flea or at Manhattan's Gifted market through December 24th. Better still, ask Keavy to put together a tasting session for you – her creations would look adorable at a kids birthday party or holiday event...
