the art of the steal
3.31.2010

I watched this movie last week and think everyone should see it.  It's an unbelievable documentary about the struggle for control of Dr. Albert C. Barnes' 25 billion dollar collection of modern and post-impressionist art. His collection contains art from Manet, Renoir, Monet, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Seurat, Picasso, Matisse and more.  It's amazing how money influences people and how these people somehow find a way to reinterpret Dr. Barnes' will to mean the exact opposite of what he wanted.  Watch the trailer of The Art of the Steal here, then go home and rent it via On Demand!

Chocolate Masters
3.30.2010

The parents of Rick and Michael Mast must be very proud. Mast Brothers Chocolate ticks all the boxes: it's delicious, beautifully packaged, and handcrafted from the the finest, wholesome ingredients. These photographs (taken by one of my absolute favorite photographers, Todd Selby) show the brothers hard at work in their beautiful Brooklyn factory. With Easter around the corner, now's the perfect time to indulge (I recommend their dark chocolate with almonds and sea salt).

photograph taken by Peggy Sirota

OK, you have to click on this photo to see the close up- look at her little face! It's the well known surfer, Laird Hamilton, tossing his daughter, Reese, high into the sky.  She is fearless and having such a ball!

A splash of colour!
3.23.2010

Don't you just love this inspiration page from the Harvey Faircloth website?... It's so fun and colourful ~ it makes me think of the summer which must be just around the corner! (Found via my lovely friend Alice's blog: neither science nor art)

Outstanding
3.19.2010

Photography by Andrea Wyner and Elaine Skinner. Courtesy of Outstanding in the Field.

I love love love this concept. Outstanding in the Field is a nomadic restaurant, whose mission is to reconnect people with the land and the origins of their food through amazing outdoor dining experiences. It's all about appreciating real, local food and the people who dedicate their lives to providing it. This beautiful long, sprawling table is being set up in all sorts of wild and wonderful places this spring and tickets are on sale now! Check out North American tour dates and details here.

grrrr...

burble...

 snoof snoof...

Look at these loveable little guys created by the rather talented Sian Keegan. They're all beautifully hand-crafted from thrift store and vintage fabrics and she even teaches classes, so you can make your very own cute little animal...

elias and grace
3.12.2010

photos courtesy of Elias and Grace website

I discovered Elias and Grace when I was perusing through the streets of Primrose Hill in London last year.  Such a smart store- clothes for mums and babies and kiddos- all in one!  Not to mention Primrose Hill is such a delightful place to spend an afternoon.  Visit the website to see their spring looks.

i heart you
3.10.2010

It's days like these that it's easy to fall head over heels for New York... Spring is finally (almost) on its way and the city is alive and buzzing in anticipation. I came across this typography project by online magazine Neue and thought it was a pretty fun idea: they're celebrating a new city every issue. Next up is Barcelona.

Poor Eli
3.05.2010

Isn't this book so cool? It perfectly captures the 'I love you but you drive me crazy' mentality of dog-owners everywhere. Super talented husband and wife team Eight Hour Day wrote and designed the book based on their own very naughty Eli. I love the unexpected illustrative style, fab typography and color palette.
